A lot of people have been dreaming to have their own home theater system. There are those who are converting their old TV rooms into a home theater where they can enjoy movies anytime they wish. A typical home theater system consists generally of a projector, a screen and some loud speakers. But today, due to the advancement of technology, a large-screen television, surround-sound speakers and a player will do the trick.

In taking care of your Home Theater System, you need to start from the basics.

What most people tend to neglect when it comes to home theater equipment care is dusting. Dust is one of the enemies of electronic devices. Dusting must be done often to prevent accumulation which may lead to blockage of electrical components like fans and outlets.

The television screen should also be given extra attention. When it is turned on, the screen instantly becomes a magnet to dusts and other tiny particles.

Do not spray any kind of household cleaner directly to the screen. Simply spray an ample amount to a cloth and work your way around the screen in a circular motion.

The use of paper towel is discouraged since its texture might cause minor scratches to the screen.

It is also good to keep food and drinks away from your home theater system.

You can eat while watching a movie but always keep a safe distance to prevent spillage and ants from rummaging through the wires.

Discs and DVDs should also be stored properly in the cases provided by the manufacturers. A DVD disc cleaner can be used to clean the insides of your disc player.

Consumers need to choose quality products before purchasing them. A home theater system might require a little bit of money but quality equipment will surely worth every penny. Worry not because in the long run, you will save a lot when your family needs not to go to a movie house just to see a movie. Your home theater will be more than enough to give them satisfaction as they experience remarkable viewing pleasure.

This year the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be held in its typical venue in Las Vegas Nevada. The event will be on January 10-13,2 012 with pre-show events for the press people on the 8th of January. This is organized by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

This year marks the 45th year of CES and it is expected that big names in the electronic industry including manufacturers, retailers, and journalists will be gathered together to see much anticipated products in 2012 and to have a glimpse of other great products that are being developed.

The very first CES was launched in 1967. Around seventeen thousand (17,000) attendees were gathered in an exhibit center in New York City that has an area of 150,000 square feet. To date, the number has grown to more than 100,000 attendees excluding the members of the press of about 5,000. The exhibit space also increased to over 2 million square feet.

Expected to be in the spotlight in this year’s CED are the following:

OLED TV

3D TV without glasses

Video Projectors

TVs featuring 4k Resolution

Wireless speaker products suitable for the home theater environment

The current technology will continue to advance with the introduction of reactive 3D TVs, more fashionable and relaxing 3D glasses and other merging products like media servers, media streamers, streaming blu-ray disc players, smart televisions, and media players.

Other highlights would be the inclusion of different tech zones like Eureka Park for small start-up companies that introduced superb product ideas, 3D at Home, HDMI, Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase.

2012 CES will also be the last chance for you to see Microsoft as one of the exhibitors and keynote speech giver.

A home theater system is what these aficionados are looking up to. The system is made up of various components that are functioning collectively to provide the users and viewers extreme amusement. Some of these parts that function together involve the speakers, cables, television, a TV stand and a media player.

The major part of any theater system is the television. Those who are not so specific with the size of screen, they remain satisfied with their present television unit. Others would want to be updated with the latest entertainment products and so they prefer to buy new units especially those that are compatible with high definition or HD technology.

3D TV is starting to dominate the industry and many people began investing in this kind of entertainment appliance after the successful launching on 3D Cinema.

Next aspect that is playing an essential role in the theater system is the media player. Although DVD player is still being widely used, Blu-ray players are now gaining popularity. Blu-rays are the modern equipment that are now preferred in the movie industry.

Another component that many customers are in search of when they procure this type of appliance is the home theater with surround sound system. This normally has six or more surround speakers and a sub-woofer that are included in the package.

Setting-up a surround sound system would be easy to accomplish only if you have technical knowledge in wire connections to put together all the aspects to function as one. However, it is much better to ask the experts to do the task to avoid any mistakes.

This state-of-the-art system will surely create added fun and amusement in daily life. It will not only enhance the quality of movies but it also gives you remarkable viewing experience.

Every foolproof home theater installation starts with a consultation with an expert technician. There is no need for you to waste endless weekends wiring and re-wiring the back of your walls or returning devices that refuse to work with the rest of your setup.

Reading the TV or projector manuals over and over may not even guarantee you the perfectly calibrated picture quality. To skip these typical frustrations plaguing home theater novices, you can just pick up the phone and call your trusted technician. After all, your time can be better used enjoying your entertainment haven than building it.

Free to Dream

Once you meet with a reliable professional, you will be asked how you imagine your home theater design would look like. If you have no clear pictures in your head, you can check the magazines and the internet for ideas. While there may be no limit on your wants, certain constraints, such your budget and your available space, will have to come into play.

The nice thing about having someone with experienced to work with you on this is their vast resource of ideas. You can tap on that during the consultation, if only to know which parts of your dream home theater is feasible.

An Actual Walk-through

Consultations can both happen over the phone and in person. The latter can mean having the technician over to your home to assess the room you intend to convert into a home theater. At this time, they should know if the height of your ceilings, the size of the room and other such details will be causing problems in the sound and the arrangement.

If you have specific technical questions, you can also ask them at this time. A home theater expert worth his salt should be able to answer whether a high definition projector is practical for you and can tell the difference between two HDTV models made by the same manufacturer.

Recommended Setup

The most important part of the process is the design itself. This is the time when you crunch the numbers with your technician, look at your options, make compromises on items that are just not possible for you and, in short, help you with the decision-making to make your dream home theater become a reality.

Whatever your budget is, you are bound to find something they would look forward to receiving.

1. The Big Guns

Dad or Grandpa will be easy to impress with a new 55-inch LED TV or a 5.1 surround sound system upgrade. Expect the same happy response when you wrap a universal remote control to hand to them. Just warn them that with these gifts, they should be ready to host a slew indoor tailgating parties in the coming year. For your own kids, give in to the endless whining with a new gaming console complete with motion control devices. Be sure to be there when they shower you with squeals and hugs.

2. Special Accents

To go with their nifty home theater installation, you can get your brother-in-law one of those comfy recliners with a plush head rest and a cup holder. A less expensive alternative would be to buy your favorite nieces their own kiddie recliners to watch their favorite Disney movies in style or your nephews a new gaming chair to call their own. A nice lamp or a coordinating rug can also be thoughtful options. For the more practical homeowners, get them any extra storage in the form of a media tower or new shelves.

3. Novelty Items

Concession stands will give instant movie theater feel to any room. The smell of popcorn can bring in the cinema into the living room so springing for a popcorn maker would bring smiles to the recipient’s face. Embroidered throw pillows bearing movie themes are also fun accessories to give. The same goes for mock ticket booths, shiny posts and decorative cords, movie reels that double as wine racks, and the like.

4. Cheap Thrills

Even the budget conscious will be able to spoil their home theater buff friends during the holidays. You can look for posters of their all-time favorite movies and have these framed. A movie clapboard that would actually work would also be a fun conversation piece. You can also pick from among the new DVD and Bluray releases or stick with the classics to add to your cousin’s collection. Holiday carols in a CD and the most awaited X-box game of the year should have the music buff or a video gamer, respectively, clapping their hands in glee the moment they open your presents.

Tablets and smartphones have more and more clawed their way into your home theater. Newer models are affixed with HDMI ports that make streaming movies to your wide screen HDTV a standard feature. One area that has been continuously tinkered by developers is the universal remote control. So far, this multi-tasking feature comes with a little baggage. While the apps are readily available in the market, you will have to supply the hardware. Some use a dongle to attach to your phone so it can emit infrared (IR) signals and communicate with your AV equipment. Other companies offer their proprietary boxes, like the Logitech Harmony Link, to get the job done. You need not hook anything to your phone to use it as a universal remote control but, just like all the rest, including some dedicated universal remote control models, you need to spend a little time on the setup. Below is the skinny on the Harmony Link:

1. Signal Boost.

The mini IR blaster that is built into this bad boy is pure convenience. Sticklers for neat and organized home theatre systems will rejoice to know that even with their devices tucked inside closed cabinets and media storage, the IR can still get to them. With the exception of the PS3, for which you need a Bluetooth adapter to control, this powerful feature will not disappoint.

2. User-friendly App.

Once you are over the initial calibration of feeding the model numbers of your devices into the Harmony Link, you are set to go. The app has all your home theater systems grouped into activities that you can access when you touch such simple categories as “Watch a Movie” or “Play a Game.”

3. Interface and Other Limitations.

The good thing about the interface is that it looks and works like a universal remote control. The not-so-good part about it, the touch screen, as compared to the buttons on a dedicated remote control, needs your attention so you will know what you are pressing. When you are used to staring at your TV while your fingertips fumble with the buttons, then navigating the smooth phone or tablet screen will need some getting used to. Moreover, searching for shows that are scheduled beyond the 24-hour mark would not come up. Lastly, to record the future showing of your favorite series, you will have to do it via the remote control function and not through the app itself.

Gather the troop and bring out the popcorn for a marathon of these family favorites:

Toys and Friendships

To all Toy Story fans and collectors alike, the Blu-ray 3D of all installments of the beloved franchise will not disappoint. If you get all three, you are set for hours of entertainment that celebrates teamwork and friendship in stunning 3D quality. As the toys progress from fighting over Andy’s affections to fighting to stay together when Andy was ready to leave for college, you will marvel at the creative use of the technological developments as well. Toy Story 3 even has a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track to accompany its mesmerizing effects. Trailers of other Blu-ray 3D movies in the works are all part of the package, but you can expect the standard definition in DVD and 2D Blu-ray plus a ton of extras to be included.

Furry and Winged Heroes

Spy fiction cannot get any cuter than the FBI team of rodents whose critical government mission is a little delayed by an unplanned trip to the pet shop and a shocking confession. While the tots are busy with the whole 96-minute stretch of thrilling action scenes in G-Force, you can sit back and appreciate how your home theater audio equipment is handling its DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. The same track is used on Bolt which, along with the jaw-dropping 3D graphics on their initial Hollywood scenes, will have you awed at the canine actor’s superpowers. To top off the cross-country adventure, there is a game and a few 2D extras tucked in there as well. If you want a 3D sneak peek of Cars and a Blu-ray in 2D with fun commentaries, among other features, snatch up a pimped up Chicken Little. With the standard definition DVD included, the textured details in the Blu-ray 3D will have you glued to its 81-minute runtime, if only to compare the artistry.

Meet Your Future

The quirky and fun Meet the Robinsons is raised to new heights with eye-popping colors and engaging tracks in its 3D conversion. Along with a couple of games and the requisite extras, this wholesome goodness comes in three versions that your kids will love to watch over and over. Certainly a great movie to add to your Blu-ray library.

If you have done your fair share of pub crawling, it may be time to merge the sports bar into your home theater. You only have to put on your favorite jersey and then enjoy watching your team without having to step out of the house. One downside, however: your friends may not want to leave your home as well.

1. Multiple Screens

Just like any sports bar, you may need a few screens to not only re-create the ambiance, but for you to follow the different games being played simultaneously. In order not to miss out on those amazing game plays, pick the biggest screens you can afford. Moreover, go for HD if you can, and call your trusted technician to assist you with the set up. You may want to scatter the screens around the room or place them all on a single wall. Either way, you would want the wires out of sight and an expert can help you achieve that.

2. Subscription Channels

Granting you have your home theatre systems down pat, you need good sports channels to feed shows into them. With the HD TVs or projectors you installed, you will have to go with the HD channels as well. The provider, whether by satellite or cable, must be reliable enough to put out the big games live without pesky interruptions. Expect to pay extra for premium channels.

3. Casual Furniture

A sports bar is not always about formal seating and furniture. When you and your friends are rooting for your team, you are not likely reclining on a leather couch. Scatter stools and bar tables around the room, as well as bean bags on rugs. If you must have good seating, go for those with cup holders. You will need to provide places for your guests to place their drinks. This will minimize the spilling of drinks on your upholstery when everyone is caught up with the excitement of a game.

4. Flowing Drinks

Having a bar, or even a mini version of it, should make you the favorite host in your block easy. Since you will be serving beer, a beverage refrigerator will come handy. If you want to impress your friends, bring in a few kegs and mount a barrel head on the wall to serve your beer straight from the tap.
